Born in Adelaide in South Australia and moving to the western suburbs of Melbourne at age two, I am the person writing this mini-biography right now.
For 40 Points:
I grew up in the classic “nuclear family” (before the definition became really convoluted – Nuclear Family) and lived a fairly simplistic life.
My father was in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a general computer / electrical technician and was the closest thing to a System/Network Administrator as you could have before PCs went the way of “Windows”.
My interest in all things computers, programming and the web developed at a very young age as my father and I would spend hours writing simple little programs on our Commodore 64.
For 30 Points:
As life moved on and all members of my family faded from my life for various reasons, I finally began to forge my own path at age twenty-one when I met my (now) wife.
For 20 Points:
I have spent a good deal of my life living through technology and while I am not as tech-minded or knowledgeable as many of my peers, I have an active interest and desire to learn more about all things relating to web design and development, social media (for personal and business purposes) and blogging.
For 10 Points:
I have most recently discovered the joys of creating content for YouTube. Not only has it brought me a whole new social life, online and in the “real world”, but it has taught me so much about myself and my desires/goals in life.
Any idea yet?
Lightning Round!!
1. Apart from a half-dozen other videos, my content on YouTube to-date has been daily vlogging and I have amassed a following of 150+ people. This may seem small in comparison to some other YouTube users, but I think that it’s pretty bloody good for just over five months (at the time of writing).
2. I absolutely love writing and lament the lack of time each day I have to commit to it; vlogging fills this void a little but I would much rather be working on my novel and writing blog posts for a living.
3. I built a following of almost 1,000 people in less than one year on Twitter around the web design / blogging communities and connected with some of the most respected names in those fields. I learned so much from those friendships and am happy to say that I maintain some of them, despite not being active in those communities anymore at all.
4. I am a self-imposed exile from my remaining family due to severe breakdown in relationships between them. As such, I’ve adopted the mantle of an “orphan” and have constructed a blog based around the circumstances that led to this decision, starting when I was kicked out of home at age seventeen. You can find it here: It Takes 10 Years To Become An Orphan
5. I honestly cannot believe that I haven’t mentioned my love for video games, but that just goes to show that it has taken quite a backseat in my list of priorities in life. You could find me playing things like Assassin’s Creed, Halo and Grand Theft Auto-esque games.
6. I can be quite narcissistic at times and writing this has satisfied my ego…for now!
I am…
(In case you couldn’t guess, considering you’re on the “About Laneth” page, this relates to me – Laneth Sffarlenn!)
